The Tees Wheelyboat Club and its new patron Baroness Tanni Grey Thompson launched their new Wheelyboat on Friday 23rd September 2011 after the club raised and secured the funds needed to buy a Wheelyboat Mk.III which, will be based permanently on the River Tees.
Tanni who is considered to be one of the most successful disabled athletes in the U.K, launched the boat on the 23rd of September. She said:
“I'm delighted to be involved in the launch of the new Wheelyboat. It’s fantastic for the people in the area and to have their own Wheelyboat on the River Tees and it is incredible because it’s the only way wheelchair users can access the river. It’s such a lovely part of the river to be close to. It’s a really important day for disabled people.”

Tanni continues: "It’s lovely to be involved and everybody has worked so hard for this." The club is also delighted to now had such a high-profile patron. Alan Kallagher, chairman of the Tees Wheelyboats Club said he was very happy to have Tanni on board.

Volunteer for the club Robin Pepper said "it's great to have Baroness Grey-Thompson on board with the Wheelyboats. I hope that it will encourage more people to come down and make use of this wonderful facility."
